Since 1989, the police state regime has got even worse; the few democratic gains obtained after November 7, 19873 have completely disappeared. There is no freedom of expression, and no opposition publication now appears in Tunisia. They have all been suppressed by the censorship and economic pressures. The government does not tolerate any criticism from the weak democratic opposition. **
