On October 22, the National Council of Timorese Resistance (CNRT) announced the formation of a Transition Council of "national unity"
The central Timorese organ for the transition period to independence will be headed by Xanana Gusmao as president. His chief of staff will be Roque Rodriguez, ex-CNRT representative in Lisbon.
